Teaching Artist
As an educator, my goal is for students to experience self discovery and find new meaning in their work. We are lucky to live in a time when many instrumental techniques have already been discovered. That being said, developing a musically expressive voice is fundamentally rooted in improvisation. I am lucky to have had both intensive classical and improvisational training on the oboe and the violin, and can teach students healthy techniques on these instruments. My teaching is a mix of guided experimentation, standard techniques for producing sound and creating harmonies, quick fixes, and improvisation exercises. These practices teach us to approach music without fear, value our own creativity, and find meaning in the ways we relate to each other and the world.
